Where a timber element can be repaired, we will always advise repair as the preferred course of action before considering replacement, particularly on listed properties.
Repairs vs Replacements
When to repair and when to replace
Repair is our preferred option. It preserves the original timber and character of the property, is less disruptive, and is usually more cost-effective. Like-for-like repairs on listed buildings typically do not require formal consent.
Replacement is only advised when timber is beyond repair, structurally unsafe, or the profile has been lost. Original units are kept wherever possible and new work is matched to the existing detail. Listed buildings require consent before replacing windows or doors.
